STOP AQUIND
I have long opposed the proposal to connect a 'High Voltage Direct Current' via underground cables between Britain and France.
I have objected for numerous reasons, and my letter to the Secretary of State for Energy & Net Zero is below.
Building the 'interconnector,' which will enter the UK at Eastney in Portsmouth before running up Waterlooville to the substation in Lovedean, will cause untold misery and congestion for local people, businesses, and our emergency services.
It also means ripping up our precious countryside for the construction chaos, destroying wildlife and our green spaces.
Simply, this colossal piece of infrastructure will decimate our countryside.
The project also threatens our national security. The MoD has ‘serious concerns’ about the proposals, which we must not ignore. We cannot afford to put our national security at risk for this or any project.
In addition to my letter to the government, I was happy to support a similar letter drafted by Councillors from Havant Borough Council. This is also attached below.
If you have any questions or concerns about this project, please do get in touch.
