A record breaking number of young people in Fareham are taking core academic subjects at A-level, thanks to the Government’s One Nation reforms to education.
The hard work has paid off at Fareham College where a total of 99.6% of students achieved their BTEC level 3 qualifications. Peter Symonds students maintained a pass rate of 99%, with 83% achieving grades A*- C and 63% achieving grades A* - B at A' Level. At Barton Peveril, students worked really hard to secure a pass rate of 98% and 76% of grades at A* - C. And at St Vincent's, some similarly excellent results to celebrate.
This year’s A-level students are among the best qualified in a generation. Today’s results reflect the dedication of teachers and young people across the area, and the success of our reforms.
These results provide the clearest proof that the introduction of the EBacc and our drive to persuade more pupils to study core academic subjects has been a success.
As a result, thousands more pupils from all backgrounds will be able to secure a place at university or an apprenticeship - meaning more young people will get the skills they need to get on in life.
Today's results show that:
-
More students are studying Maths – with entries up 20 per cent per cent in five years.
-
The number of pupils taking core subjects is up by more than 15,000 since last year and 13.3 per cent per cent since 2010.
-
Over 409,000 students have been accepted to UK universities and colleges today – three percent per cent more than last year.
-
More students from disadvantaged backgrounds have secured a university or college place – up four per cent per cent on last year.
-
This year there were 16,000 more STEM A-level entries for women than in 2010.
-
The number of entries in facilitating subjects by women has also increased by around 27,000 since 2010.
I am thrilled with these results, especially the up-take of core subjects and STEM A'Levels. However, we still need to increase A'Level provision within Fareham itself and I am working hard to bring schools together to find the best way forward on this.
