I enjoyed my first week in Parliament, meeting other newly-elected Members of Parliament and those returning after re-election. The atmosphere was positive and energised as the Prime Minister briefed us on the task ahead.
It is clear that the election victory was a clear vote of confidence for the leadership of David Cameron, our economic reforms enabling the country to live within its means and strengthening Britain's place in the world.
David Cameron said this: "We're the real party of working people: giving everyone in our country the chance to get on, with the dignity of a job, the pride of a paycheque, a home of their own and the security and peace of mind that comes from being able to support a family."
Importantly, we are the party of compassion, by reforming welfare and education, so that the most disadvantaged can make something of themselves.
And lastly, we are the party that brings our country together: by closing the north-south divide and bringing our United Kingdom of four nations together.
These values are key to the work of the government over the next 5 years and I am proud to be part of the team.
