Success! Havant Borough Council U-turn on Sunday parking charges at Mission Lane Car Park

I am very pleased that Labour and Lib Dem controlled Havant Borough Council have U-turned and 'paused' their plans to implement Sunday car parking charges at numerous car parks throughout the borough, including at Mission Lane.

These charges would have implemented a 'Pay to Pray' scheme at Cowplain Evangelical Church. With those attending either being forced into paying to park for the first time on a Sunday or being forced to park in the road and impacting local residents.

I was approached by the church to help and set up a petition, and with the help of Rev. Phil Brown, who spoke against the scheme at Havant Borough Council we began our campaign.

I wrote a letter to HBC asking them to change their mind. I am very pleased that HBC have listened to me and local people and they have 'paused' the scheme and decided not to implement it. This is great news for local people! Now we have to make sure the pause becomes a permanent stop to these plans!

A press release from HBC can be found here: https://www.havant.gov.uk/news/2025/council-pauses-proposed-car-parking…

Thank you to everybody who helped this become a very rewarding and successful campaign.

Suella

P.S - My original letter to HBC asking them to change their mind is attached.
