I have written to the leaders of Winchester City Council and Portsmouth City Council to oppose proposals that would place Denmead into the proposed 'Greater Portsmouth' unitary authority.
Denmead is unsuited to be in a council area such as Portsmouth that is predominantly urban. Denmead is a rural village and it is not appropriate for it to be dominated by a council based in Portsmouth.
Local residents strongly oppose the proposal and instead back a Mid-Hampshire option. This would solidify a strong rural voice for the area,
My letter to both councils is attached. The needs of local people should be put first and that must take precedence in any local government reorganisation.
