Member of Parliament for Fareham, Suella Braverman, has welcomed the news that Fareham Community Hospital will be benefitting from a new Renal Hub following a longstanding campaign to improve services at the hospital.

The Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed that it is committed to delivering the Renal Hub, which is used to support patients in need of dialysis treatment.

Suella Braverman has been a longstanding campaigner for better services and improvements at Fareham Community Hospital – such as for the new kidney treatment facility - and has also lobbied for a permanent breast screening facility to be installed at the hospital. Mrs Braverman also chairs the FCH Taskforce which has recently published its Future Vision report which makes a number of recommendations for improvements to service provision and accessibility.

Suella Braverman MP said:

“I am very pleased that Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has confirmed that a new renal treatment facility will be coming to Fareham Community Hospital. The new hub will be an essential step in delivering the care that patients in Fareham deserve, and I am grateful to all those who have supported our campaign for better facilities at the hospital. I would especially like to express my gratitude towards the Fareham Meon Rotary Club who are continuing their proud record of investing in the local community.

“Everybody involved with delivering these new facilities for patients can be proud of their contribution, however, this does not signal an end to our work at Fareham Community Hospital and I will continue to work and lobby for further improvements.”

Among the donors ensuring the delivery of new Renal Hub services are the Fareham Meon Rotary Club who are donating £4,275 to purchase specialist training beds to enable patients to undertake renal dialysis in their own homes and thus avoiding the need to be hospitalised for treatment. The President of the Fareham Meon Rotary Club, Peter Pollard, said the Hub would be “a major enhancement to healthcare services in the local community and one with which Fareham Meon Rotary is delighted to be involved.”

The NHS is a vital service, and one we all care about deeply.  My mother worked as a nurse for 45 years, so it is particularly close to my heart.  Doctors and nurses do an amazing job and want what is best for their patients, and we in return rely on being able to access dedicated healthcare where and when we need it.
