Taking some time off the campaign trail, I stopped off at Lockswood Bowling Club for a cup of tea and a chat this week.
Lockswood Bowling Club is thriving. One of the largest in the country, with about 200 members, the club plays on an artificial green which enables members to play outside throughout the year. The modern clubhouse and green are maintained by members who take pride in the work they do, turning their hands to anything from plumbing, carpentry and painting. The gardens are beautifully kept by members whose hard work was rewarded with Silver Gilt Medals in the Fareham in Bloom competition in 2004 and 2005 and the coveted Gold Medal in 2006. After a break of several years the Club entered the competition again in 2012 and 2013 and once more were awarded the gold medal in both years.
I saw the laying down of new turf, and noted how grateful the club is to local Councillors, Susan and Brian Bayford for their ongoing support.
